Business Manager tasks typically involve:

  • overseeing the production process, maintaining a production schedule;
  • submitting projects for labor and yardage estimates; 
  • maintaining materials inventory and preparing fabric purchase orders;
  • making sure that products are produced on time and are of good quality (fashion/sewing knowledge beneficial);
  • drafting a timescale for projects;
  • monitoring the production processes and maintaining schedules;
  • monitoring product standards and implementing quality-control programs;
  • liaising among different departments, e.g. suppliers, owners, labor contractors, clients;
  • working with owner to implement the company's policies and goals;
  • supervising and motivating a team of contractors;
  • reviewing contractor performance;
  • additional team support such as assistance at bridal expos.

A production manager is involved in the pre-production (planning) stage as well as the production (control and supervision) stage.  A large part of production management involves professional interactions with contractors and clients.  Production managers may assist with product spec design and materials purchasing.

Requirements:

  • Intuitive interpersonal skills, calm demeanor;
  • Highly organized with ability to maintain detailed records.

 Contract Samplemaker tasks typically involve:

  • creating project labor cost and time estimates;
  • reporting progress to Project Manager via inspections and phone/email;
  • providing yardage estimates and special notions considerations; 
  • making sure that products are produced on time and meet Damsel White Label standards provided;
  • working with owner to implement the company's policies and goals.

A contract samplemaker may be a business or individual.  Fluent English is necessary.  Must be citizen or lawful resident.  Skills should include luxury-quality sewing techniques for formalwear and bridal.

Internship duties are designed individually.  My goal is to provide insight and experience within a fashion entrepreneurial environment in exchange for dedicated application of intern's passions as they relate to future goals.  In addition to maintaining studio and assisting Project Manager, past interns have handled tasks such as:

  • Content Management: Blogging, graphics, video/audio editing, social media (Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook group)
  • Editorial: Coordinate with other vendors on styled shoots
  • Creative design: branding, costing, art direction
  • Technical design:  spec packs, conducting fittings, costing
  • Event coordination: private presentations, open houses
  • Publicity: press management, social media, blogging, newsletters
  • Patternmaking, Samplemaking
  • Fashion Marketing: Lookbook, expos, runway, advertising

Internships are for collegiate credit but often have paid associated sub-projects.  As we continue to grow, more staff opportunities may become available.
